Jean - Understanding Dementia

For one of my final university projects a created a publication surrounding the subject of dementia and how it effects different members of a family. through interviews and questions different family members answered honestly on how their mother’s dementia has effected them and their lives and relationships. The book was Bound, typeset and fully designed by myself.

STENCIL Creative

Between 2020 and 2022, I had the privilege of serving as a part-time intern at STENCIL Creative Agency in Nottingham. Within this dynamic environment, I worked as a collaborative team member, contributing to a multitude of projects. My primary responsibilities included crafting captivating illustrations and diverse layouts for clients seeking comprehensive rebranding solutions. Additionally, I lent my creative touch to produce illustrated assets for animated advertisements, as well as contributing to the award winning Pitch magazine with bespoke illustrations. Furthermore, I honed my skills in photo editing and montage creation, adding a nuanced touch to our projects. This enriching experience not only broadened my creative horizons and gave me insights on what working in an operating graphic design studio but also instilled in me a deep sense of pride in contributing to the success of our clients,  ventures.

Rorschach

Design as storytelling, how experimentation with visual material can enhance personally authored writing, and well
embrace a wide range of interdisciplinary themes to encourage approaches to narrative storytelling beyond the conventions of a traditional book.  For this brief I wrote a vulnerable story about my own life experiences and used methods to further reflect the emotions from the actual book, such as creating an image with layering the words on acetate, soaking
the pages in TCP so the book smelled like a hospital and creating a metal dust jacket showing how I was feeling in the book.

Falmouth Zine fair

At university I was briefed by the illustration department to design an identity for the 2025 Falmouth Zine Fair, to be output as A4 posters with a thematic nudge of ‘Duality’. Here are some options I created - I wanted to covey duality by making a poster whcih seemed to be melting away representing its initial form transitioning into a fully melted form. I created multiple versions exploring different contrasting colour schemes to further enforce the notion of duality.

Helvetica Film Screening Poster

This brief was set to advertise the Helvetica film screening. with only paper cut outs of the Helvetica alphabet I set about creating a visual hierarchy dissimilar to anyone else's as we all had the same brief and same letters to create something with. I started by cutting up the letters in uneven lines and sticking them down in a hierarchy I liked then scrunched it up and experimented with analogue methods and materials such as inks, dust, oil, glue, mud, fire and tape. I then scanned it in and limited the print to two colours creating a distorted effect over the unnecessary type.
